i feel ashamed to be greek

execution... moaning... anger... violence... anarchy... chaos... fear... confusion... insecurity... madness... questions... questions with no answer!

so the story goes like that... saturday 6.12.2008: at about 9 oclock at night a cop executes a 15-year-old boy at Exarchia, a preety infamous, boem area of athens. when i say executes, i mean the cop aimed at the boy's chest, fired his gun & just walked away, just like had happened, not ever running. bad news always spread quickly... Ppl are quickly gathering at on the streets  to protest for this horiffic crime. Anger fires up, cops are supposed to be around to protect us, not to take advantage of their power & shoot ppl... the goverment sais that the young boy insulted the cops.

.. so what, he was 15 years old, could he be a threat against a special skilled cop?!?! Ppl are starting to burn trash-cans, as the night continiues, they burn cars, shops, banks! A revolution has beggun!! I say thank god, greeks are awake, they react, they got out to express theur feelings, their anger, they show they care...!!

sunday... in the morning things are awckward... the most commercial street of athens (ermou streer) is totally destroyed... the numbers say: 35 shops, 17 banks, many many cars & countless trash cans! Ppl are still angry, they go out on the streets to protest, they are not anarchist, they are citizens of this country that they are simply fed up! i would be there if i could run! im by their side, each action has a reaction! facebook is on fire too (not literally) school boys and girls are creating groups, uploading fotos, making dedications to the dead boy, that has become an idol within one day, they express their anger for their friend, anger for someone in the same age that died for no reason.

we all stayed at home, we were all talking about the same thing.

monday morning is kinda sweet. students all over greece are are closing streets near their schools, they go outside local police stations & throw... fruits, of course cops fire back with chemicals. Athens is paralyzed... students are everywhere many many streets are closed, one metro line is not working properly, ppl avoid to go downtown, but thiongs are still ok! monday is the day of police stations & banks or ATMs, they stop burning down shops & the are burning down police cars, motorcycles & police stations! im so with tem! the whole educational system (students of highschools, students of universities, teachers & professors) are on the streets...

is like a social revolution is going on! but things get bad at night... at about 9 o'clock (48 hours after the beginning), it's like a war starting. Athens is on fire! Buildings with houses are burning, historical buildings of the university of Athens are burning, even the National Libary is burning (fortunatelly not destroyed). Building all over the center of the city are on fire. Pictures by helicopters show the city full of smokes, like it's been attacked with bombs! the citizens... we watch our tv screens shocked & speechless, we havent seen anyhting like that for the last 35 years that greece has democracy!The whole country is on fire... in almost every city, ppl are burning & sestroying, everything they can, but the most serious problems are in Athens & Thesaloniki (the 2 biggest cities of the country). At that point everyone are so angry about all that, so ashamed... we feel attacked! but why? attacked for no reason! pictures i cant describe cause my english are bad, pictures i cant describe in any language! Ppl say someone is behind all this, who? the goverment? the politicla party that wishes to be gaverment? the churc? the army? americans? the goverment of fyrom? i dont know & i dont care the only thing i know is that im ashamed to be greek!

today is the funeral of the young boy! i dont know what today will happen or tomorrow or the day after tomorrow... im not optimistic, im shocked, im afraid, im angry, im disappointed. im sure that there will be no holidays for greeks this year! too bad... x-mas the celebration of love, the celebration of giving (4 me) or the celebration of consuming in the modern- western world wont be here! santa clause wont come in this town that will still be counting its damages!

all this is just ridiculous! we belong in europe, we are in the 21st century! things should be in another lever, conflicts of any kind should be resolved in another way.

citizens of greece, citizens of any country, of any city around the world should feel safe! should feel that someone is protecting them sufficiently (& i dont mean god). fucking politicians & those who handle the money should stop playing games against innocemt ppl's lives! human life has a value! i wish till the day that i'll die to see around the world peace, equality, security & prosperity for each & every one of us! (i know im dreaming of utopia)
