Reflections on York
I worked here from January 2007 to September 2007. York is a very historical city and (unusually, I think) all the main sights are within 15 minutes walk of the city centre which itself is quite small. There are at least 4 different ghost tours in summer and 2 all year round. I went on one in the freezing cold at the start of January. Good fun, the guide really drew you into his stories. After I saw all the sights, I settled into a work routine, alas...its not quite like jetting in for 2 weeks and relaxing while you're there and coming away relaxed. I came away quite stressed and needing a holiday :) i stayed in an apartment overlooking the river Ouze (could this be where the work "ooze" derived from...) in the city centre. . The views throughout the city are amazing.
If I have one (minor) complaint about York, its that there are only two internet cafés, one of which shuts at 6pm. Other than that its well worth a trip.
The nearest domestic airport is Leeds-Bradford which is 40 miles away with regualr flights to Ireland (not sure about other European) countries, and the nearest international airport is Manchester or Edinburgh. Manchester is just under 2 hours away on the train, and Edinburgh is around 3.
