The first KL TB Meetup finally happened, after days of uncertainty (especially for me!). TB members Joorinha, easyjobrob, long-time but not so active member - Desmond, Jennethm, Sue_81, xFineArtistx, MilltownMeadow and new member, Shuwei, turned up inspite of the downpour for an opportunity to vouch for each other.
The initial plan was to meet between 7.30 and 8pm, to give some of us time in case we got lost. After much contemplation about the location, we decided to meet at the Lot 10 shopping mall, which is conveniently located next to the monorail station.
I'd arrived just before 8pm with Shuwei, who's my friend Kim (that's her real name!). As we reached our meeting point (the mall entrance located next to the Guess? store), it didn't take me long to recognise Marta(joorinha) and Rob(easyjobrob) with another TB member, whom I later found out was Desmond, a local TB who's been a member of TB for a while now but has not been so active (according to him).
But I waited five minutes before approaching them to confirm if they were indeed there for the meetup. Yes, Marta, it was actually you who had looked back to where we were standing and it didn't take long for us to recognise each other, even though you wore these big fly-eyes sunglasses in your profile pic. After the introductions and initial small talk, we decided (or rather, Rob INSISTED!) that we'd walk over to the Dome cafe, which was located opposite to Guess? near the mall entrance, to get ourselves a couple of beers. It was also a good lookout post for other TBs who were on their way to join the meetup but were probably running late because of the weather.
While we waited for the first round of beers to arrive, the small talk turned into conversations about shared travel experiences and of our personal lives.
As the guys prepared to order their third round of beers, I could feel the beer taking over my head as we had yet to have dinner. So while we discussed where we could go to to enjoy some local hawker fare, I received text messages from local TBs, Sue (Sue_81) and Sophie (xFineArtistx) who'd arrived and wanted to know of our current location. Jenneth (jennethm) - who'd come directly from the airport - and Shaun (MilltonMeadow) plus friends, soon followed and knowing that there may not be anyone else to wait for, we left to get dinner.
Making our way out to find somewhere to eat, Marta got excited when she spotted a group of young people offering free hugs and practically threw herself at the lot! After getting Rob to take a few pics of her in various "styles" of hugs, we then had to pry her off and away from the group to go find food!!
Thanks to Desmond, who's a KL boy, we made our way to Jalan Alor, a bustling street lined with many hawker food stalls, filled with foodies and vehicles trying to manouvre their way between patrons.
Thanks to the effiency of the proprietors, we got to fill our ever increasing hunger with Rice Wine Chicken, stir-fried Kai Lan (its a type of green, leafy vegetable), Sze Chuan Chicken, omellette as well as beef and chicken satay! Yummy!! Of course, no meal would be complete if you can't wash it down with beer. ;) We seemed to be the only ones in the group who ate like we hadn't had a meal in days! The others who arrived late, we now know, had a bite to eat before meeting us (thanks a lot, guys!). :P
By the time Kim and I were done, we had to say goodbye as we were rushing to catch our train for home. I wish I could have stayed back, but I don't drive so I had to catch the last train to my town, about 40mins away, which left 11pm.
I had a really nice time with a bunch of wonderful TBs whom I had previously known from the pics on their profile, but can now call friends.
I just hope they had as much fun and enjoyed Malaysia's hospitality.
Sila kembali lagi (do come back)!!
