Bangkok ..change hotel .. shopping
The Aussi girl from Koh Samui has suggested that i better forget about the scuba diving 'cos of bad underwater conditions she said that this is very unusual for this time of year . My stomache had not got any worse or any better and my time at Asia hotel is getting short , i asked for two more days and i had to wait several hours before they say they are all booked up.
Although i aspire to a non-violent lifestyle and like the buddhist attitude , my liking for the Thais does not extend to the taxi drivers outside the hotel who hassled me with postcard sized pictures of semi naked Thai girls ,nearly every time i came out of the hotel , presuming that i would like to be taken to wherever they were . It occurred to me that if by punching one of them on the nose , they all would stop pestering me then it would be a departure from protocol that would be worthwhile . Fortunately i moved hotel before it came to that .
It was pretty hot in BK and just going out and window shopping for a few hours was quite draining , i cant take a lot of heat , and i used a lot of internet cafes which often had airconditioning , were cheap and everywhere .
I was eating a lot of roast bananas/sweetcorn and raisin pancakes , the smell of meat and fish cooking at the roadside at those popular stalls i find nauseating .I did discover some absolutely delic. drinking coconuts tho (see pic).
I found another hotel using the travel booking desk in the Asia hotel , i cant remember the name of it now but i booked a couple of nights
it was on a main road opposite which there were a stage and lots of seating laid out for celebrations that were going on . The hotel had a good gym and pool and i put them to good use for a couple of hours a day , swimming lengths on my back.
4* hotels usually do a buffet type breakfast and meals , where u can serve yourself and eat as much or as little as you want to , the same with tea + coffee .
I thought i better sort something out and whilst out shopping i found a travel kiosk and with thier help i devised a plan B , which was to fly south to Krabi , which has a beach and does lots of tours , it was very hot in BK and i thought a beach would have some breeze which would be a relief . I was nt sure and went off to think about it , i found an indoor market with about 6 floors which sold everything you can think of in triplicate. On the top floor they had an Internet cafe and also served coffee , i have a weakness for both and must have spent over 3 hours in there , i didnt actually buying any wares tho (i dont like bargaining much) .
Next day i had decided to take the Krabi option but the travel kiosk was closed , i had the agents card and i called , she sent a work colleague and opened up especially for me , which is indicative of both thier friendliness and also thier buisiness sense .
They probably did quite well out of me but who cares , they were both pleasant and courteous and did thier best for me .
My stomache was STILL funny and i got some tabs from a chemist which helped . Some months later i got the same complaint whilst in the UK , and cured it quickly with gaviscon tablets ,it must have been like an acid indigestion , i had never had it before in my life .
The roads are always busy in BK but imo they are disciplined and also the cars are in good order , with all lights working , unlike India where the driving is like a 'mad house' and everyone sounds thier horn all the time .
On driving in bangkok , they drive on the left had side of the road with right hand drive vehicles and who can you thank for that ? (for doing it properly) the Brits of course. The film 'The King and I' was based on fact and the son of the king was educated in britain and brought back and adopted some of the Uk customs (same as India ).
