Fun in the sun...

Punta Cana Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I went to Punta Cana for 8 days / 7 nights last month. All food, drink, hotel, airfare for around $900. So. Much. fun.

Fun in the sun...

Pool in the morning.

We stayed at Iberostar Bavaro/Dominica/Punta Cana Resort.  All inclusive.  The beaches & resort were very nice.

The food was pretty good, but the beaches, resort, crowd, and nightlife were excellent.

We met so many cool people (staff and other tourists). Our rooms were outstanding (they were all junior suites).  Had temps around 80 - 85 degrees all week (which was a nice break from winter in Vermont).

We were a group of 5 and had an absolute blast. Everything from the partying in/around the pool to one of the most gorgeous beaches I've ever been to.

Up the beach. If you look close, you can see the colored roofs of the souvenir shacks...
I love the coastline, and this beach and resort was off the hook.

We could've probably toured around a bit more but hardly ever did. It was great right where we were.  There were some shacks about half a mile to a mile up the beach with souvenirs & local wares...the little beach bar/shack up there is cool to do in the afternoon...the locals are nice but we were cautious so as to not get swindled - these shacks are about as far off the resort as we got.  We'll probably do more exploring our next trip.

The liquor was good...Stoli & Tanqueray are about as top shelf as you can get...Presidente & Especial are the choice beers.

But the rum was fantastic...a couple different makers.

..Brugal is the standard Dominican brand I guess (silver & spiced) & Don Rhon is nice too...the Dominican 'drink' is mama Juana (some herbal tree's woodchips soaked in about 10% honey, 70% rum & 20% red wine)...we found out it will definitely do the trick ;-)

Nightly shows were fun.  Small casino on the resort & a nightclub that opens @ 11pm nightly...lots of Latin club music if you're into that.  We went pretty much just to relax and enjoy ourselves this trip since this was our first venture to the DR.  So our daily routine basically consisted of just lying around and taking in the scenery by day.  We ate & drank ALL DAY.  By night we did nice dinners, went to the shows, drank more & lived the nightlife until daylight hours.

I think the local vendors came in to the resort one or two nights a week to barter w/the tourists, but we were already forewarned to be cautious when dealing w/the natives, to always barter and check gift shop prices first because they're usually the best bet - It was probably about 10% American and the rest were Euro, Russian, etc.

We'll definitely go back.  Maybe we'll do some more exploring.  But having the freedom to travel between all three resorts and make use of all facilities, had everything we wanted and more right there and seemed like more than enough to do for our first trip.  Can't wait to return!
