Our first day in Mostar didnt really start until around 8pm because we didnt get the bus until 3.15.One problem we had was when i bought the tickets to mostar when we arrived in dubrovnik i thought they were rather expensive but didnt check(idiot). We had only been sold tickets too Sarajevo. When i tried to get my money back they said i was my fault and that i must of asked to sarajevo. You know how frustrating it is when you know you wouldnt of asked for sarajevo when you had no plan of going there.I did get some money back but not alot.
When we were at the bus station i vowed that i would never go on a cruise in my life, because if there is one thing that dubrovnik put me off,it was cruises.
Thousands and thousand of people just ransack the place in force,Chaos. As we were sat waiting for our bus an american woman approached us and asked if we were reading american language books. To which i replied ''english languge'' its our language.haha.She asked if she could buy one of our books off us as she was going to Korcula and had nothing to read.So i had just finished reading Into the wild and asked her if she wanted to buy it.I woould of liked enough money to buy another book but she offered me the equivalent of £1.Have fun in Korcula with your croatian books i thought to myself as i declined. We finally arrived in Mostar and were met at the bus station by Miran the owner of our hostel and we were shown to 'Hostel Miran'.Which was basically his house and his mother who speaks no english at all was a very gracious host and made us feel very welcome and let us watch the eurovision song contest with her.
Which was extremely amusing.Miran himself was an unbelievable hostel owner.OK so the hostel wasnt the best in the world but as soon as we got there he was trying to arrange things for us to do like going swimming in a nature park among waterfall etc but because we would only have one day in Mostar we had to decline and which was a great shame.
We decided to head into the old town that evening to get a look at stari most and some dinner.Bosnia was great ,it was dirt cheap to eat out, well to be honest all of eastern europe was compared to home.We ate in a restaraunt on the river looking over the bridge. The bridge was a fantastic sight what a beautiful town.I fell in love with Mostar, there was something about it that i really liked. On the way back to the hostel we were approached by a young gypsie girl begging us for money.
But i could only think that her mother was somewhere close by watching us.When we got back to the hostel we met a Japanese guy called Daisuke who we sat a chatted to for a couple of hours. He was in Europe getting a degree in austria on the war in the former yugoslavia. His dream was to write a book about it in Japanese.Because apparently there are no books on the war in Japan,so when he watched it on the news at home he decided to come to europe to find out more.Crazy.
The next day in Mostar was a rather relaxed day just walking around Mostar and seeing what the place had to offer,we almost saw one of the jumpers but they were just teasing, its quite sad that they only jump for money now. When we left the old town we were told we had just missed one of the guys jump in.Gutted.Then we walked Alison to the bus station as she was heading to Sarajevo, little did we know that we would be forced to go to Sarajevo the next day because Lousy Planet was wrong and there was no overnight train to Budapest.
So that evening we had an early night because we had to get the 6.50am train to sarajevo!
We were shown to our double room.Which actually had 5 beds!!!Then we were given cake and offered coffee. Then Miran(the young man) turned up and started telling us he was going to take us all to a waterfall nearby for the day and we could go swimming there etc.Unfortunately we only had one full day in Mostar so we wanted to stay in Mostar. On reflection we should of gone with him because it would of been great.
The whole time we were there he was trying his best to help us out.If you had a question he would find out the answer, straight away.He literally couldnt of done anything more to help us out.he started giving me official postcards of bosnia that his girlfriend was in and asking us if we wanted a traditional bosnian lunch. His mother who was there the whole time, was brilliant. She didnt speak a word of english but she was constantly offering us coffer and let us watch the eurovision with her.
A fantastic place to stay with great owners who strive to make your time there brilliant
