The Magnificent Murchison falls
It is said in the history books that Dr. David Livingston a Scottish missionary was one of the greatest European explorers of Africa and that his opening up of the interior of the African Continent contributed immensely to the "Scramble for Africa" . In selling my country of Uganda as a tourist destination of choice, continued reference is made to the emotions that the explorers Livingston, Stanley and Baker expressed at the magnificence and breath taking beauty of Africa and Uganda in particular. Together with Stanley they later discover "The Source of the Nile" in my country. The Nile begins it long journey from Lake Victoria in Uganda and continues in a northwestern direction: then it flows into Lake Albert, mingling with the Albert Nile at Murchison Falls, one of the most dramatic and powerful falls on the continent: Murchison Falls is one of the leading tourist attractions in Uganda.
I guess reading can be a challenge to many, to cut through a lot of what might end up being a history lesson, here are the main attractions in Uganda: 1. Murchison Falls - Murchison Falls National Park, 2. Queen Elizabeth national Park, 3. Ruwenzori Mountains "Mountains of the Moon", 4. Mountain Gorillas - Bwindi Impenetrable & Mgahinga National Parks, 5. Sipi Falls, 6. White Water Rafting at Bujagali Falls (Source of the Nile), and 7. Lake Mburo National Park. MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK:
This is the largest National Park in Uganda, it was named after the mighty Murchison Falls which, makes the legendary Zambezi look smaller. Murchison Falls Park is the location where the world's longest river (the White Nile) explodes violently through a narrow cleftin of the northern rift valley escarpment plunging into a 43 meters pool below. This national park is home to wildlife animals like elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Antelopes, Lions, Crocodiles to mention but a few. It is located in North Western Uganda approximately 90 kilometers from Masindi town. Game viewing safaris run from Uganda with a standard 3-day safari being the most popular of all. Beside the game viewing, one can go bird watching, Chimpanzee tracking or take a boat trip down Lake Albert.A 3 day safari itinerary looks like this: 300km North-West of Kampala.
