I would like to share some pictures of my home town Cologne with you. This city has a great character and some big events. Well worth having a look around. Carnival is great fun, so are the Cologne lights (Koelner Lichter) and CSD - both in July. Cologne is a media and art city and got plenty other things to offer! I will update this blog occasionally with pictures...

Rosenmontag Zug in Koelle (Rosemonday Parade in Cologne) Carnival is here!

And another carnival season is here. We went to 2 parades and like always we had great fun! Here are some of the pictures I took! It is a fantastic atmosphere you have to see it yourself just beware of the flying objects (chocolate bars, flowers, toys etc...)! ;-)

The "Rosemonday parade" ,the largest one in Germany, starts at 11:11 am and has an overall length of 7 kilometers and the course way is 6.5 km and needs over four hours. Up to one million spectators we watching and celebrating beside the track. In the year 2007 the slogan for the parade was "Mir all sin Kölle" = "We all are Cologne".

Some numbers: 10200 participants, 124 bands, 440 horses, 800 "guarding angels" for the fact that during the course nobody gets "under the wheels".

Throw material: 150 tons of sweets, more than 700.000 bars of chocolate, 220.000 boxes of chocolates, 300.000 Struessjer (small bouquets) and thousands of small toys.
