Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot is another Pura temple. It's quite small, but the surroundings are stunning! It was buildt in th 16th century, and so it's not the oldest. It stands on a rock just off the shore, and is a very important temple regarding the sea spirits.

The sea-snakes found near the shore are believed to guard the temple from intruders and evil spirits, and on the shore there's a cave with a holy snake in it. You can actually go inside and touch this poor creature against a small offering, but my advice is to leave it alone. It's probably sick of stupid tourists rubbing it for good luck...

The sunsets at Tanah Lot are magnificent and very romantic. Just bear in mind that it's said to be bad luck to bring your boyfriend or girlfriend here - the relationship will end...

The temple is located about 20 km from Denpasar, and reachable by bus or taxi.
