Afternoon Tea at Gleneagles - how civilised!

Auchterarder Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

Mark and I stayed at a friend's cottage for two nights in the school mid-term week. I went to university in St Andrews, so it was nice to go back, plus it was Valentine's Day, so very soppy!

Afternoon Tea at Gleneagles - how civilised!

This is just one part of the afternoon tea - there was a stand of cakes that size, as well as other bits and pieces

We finally arrived at Gleneagles about an hour and a half after we left St Andrews, making up around ten minutes on the journey. Poor Mark drove the whole way while I kicked back and got 40 winks!

Gleneagles Hotel is famous for its golf course, and also for hosting the G8 summit the year the London Underground was bombed.

We had booked our Afternoon Tea Experience in the Gleneagles Bar the week before and you are allotted a time, which - if you miss - you don't get in! It's that busy. The bar itself harks back to the Art Deco era/ the days of Jazz...it's very relazing but children are allowed in and it got a bit noisy at one point.

It was certainly a splendid affair. We were offered tea, coffee and wine, and an appetiser of chilled soup in a shot glass. Then we were presented with a tower of finger sandwiches and rolls, as well as little blinis and sausage rolls. We probably ate too many but when the stack of cakes, pastries, griddle pancakes and scones arrived we couldn't help but eat more! They were served with clotted cream and strawberry jam. The whole event took about an hour and a half, but you could stretch it out as long as you'd like.

It was a wonderful way to round off our time away, and we took a short walk through the gardens before going back to the car - it was rather cold!
