A wee weekend break in the middle of the week
One of Mark's colleagues owns a cottage in the very small seaside town of St Monan's in Fife. It's very near where I went to university - St Andrews - so we decided to go up over Valentine's Day during the school half term week.
The cottage was lovely - overlooking the sea, very rustic. We took food with us and cooked dinner on our first night, after driving along to Anstruther to the supermarket for a few things we'd forgotten (Diet Coke and Wine, Chocolate and Kettle Chips), we settled in at the cottage for a night together. I cooked dinner of steak and mashed potatoes, Mark cracked open a tub of ice cream and a bottle of wine and we were set for the night.
The only problem with the cottage was that it was pretty cold, and the heating in the main bedroom didn't seem to be working! So we hauled the mattress and bedding into the sitting room and ended up sleeping in there for the two nights! I worked out pretty well...we fired the radiator in there up full blast (which worked) and kept very cosy in the sitting room and kitchen!
