Our first full day in Singapore

This blog is documenting everything that I did on my round the world trip last July 2007 with my friend Bree. It was my very first overseas trip and it consisted of a stay in Signapore, before heading to London to begin an 18 day Contiki European Impressions tour, we then spent time with family in Wales before heading back to London. We then flew to New York for another quick contiki tour, and finished up in Hawaii for a relaxing finish. We quite literally did a full circle of the globe.

Our first full day in Singapore

Today we slept in until 8.30am, and then went down for breakfast.  We were surprised to discover that breakfast was included!! It was really weird to see rice and noodles for breakfast! We were glad when we saw coco pops!

We then headed out exporing and came across a shopping centre. We found a free internet place and sent emails home to everyone know we had arrived safe and sound. We were there for a while until we decided to do a little shopping, but at 11am, the shops were still not open.  We went for a walk and found another shopping centre where there was a really good shop with cheap dvds.  We made a plan to come back the next day.

We thought we would tackle the trains, and decided to head to Little India to the markets we had heard about.

We hopped off the train and entered this really dodgy area.  The only markets we could find were food and produce ones and it smelt really bad! We did a full circle of the area, and after getting freaked out by a few random people, hopped straight back on the train.  We later realised that if we would have turned right instead of left when hopping off the train, we would have found the markets we were looking for!! Well at least we got to see some of the different cultures in Singapore.

We headed back to the hotel for a swim, as it was SO hot and our feet were burning from the ground.  It was good to relax for a while considering what we had ahead of us!

We then headed out to Clarke Quay on the Singapore River.  We hopped on a tradtional 'bum boat' and had a nice ride on the harbour.  We saw the famous merlion, headed back to the quay and had dinner by the water.  We had the best pizza, and I know, in Singapore!

Headed back to the hotel for another early night.
