Arrival in Tokyo - step one in a 3-week trip

First visit to Tokyo, and since I'm not really the 'adventure' traveller type, I always have a little anxiety at the start. No need to worry, of course, as one of the side-benefits of working for Four Seasons Hotels is that we get to use the terrific arrival services the hotels offer. In this case, a greeting at the airport once through immigration. A very helpful escort through to the ATM (essential to get your money in advance, or in the airport, as once you're in the city finding an ATM is easy, but finding one that accepts Western cards is not!) and then on to the train platform, where they put you on the right train, and then call through so there's someone at your exit door to pick you up and take you through to the hote.
We stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi, which is walking distance from Tokyo Station. It's a beautiful, small hotel best suited to business and also a nice place to base a leisure stay thanks to its ideal access to the train station. Trains are how you should experience Tokyo. While the hotel overlooks the station and tracks, it has the most exceptional soundproofing I've ever experienced.
