me taping in a shelf in the salon

Thursdays are always fun because we get to sleep in a little.  We have settled into a pretty regular schedule now (although that will change soon I think).  Monday - Wed we leave for work at 6:30 and leave for home at 5:30.  Thursday we get to sleep in until 8:30 and leave work at 5:30.  Friday we leave at 6:30 again but go home at 4:30.  Saturday we leave for work at 7 (less traffic on the weekend) and go home at 4:30.  Phew... don't know if that made any sense, but basically I had a nice morning this morning and read/listened to music in the cab on the way in and enjoyed my usual breakfast of yogurt and chocolate milk.  I spent the morning and part of the afternoon wet sanding the sides of the charthouse with Jay and Tom, then did some things on the computer for Travis.

Yesterday was pretty similar, although it was taping the teak in the salon in the morning and then helping Eliot tape big pieces of foam to the rigging wires so they won't bang into anything when they go up in a few days.  I spent part of the afternoon organizing the storeroom and  entering some data into the computer for Travis.  The day before was spent almost entirely taping in the cabins/charthouse, an experience made infinitely better by remembering to bring my CD player.  My slightly embarrassing/humerous moment of the day was when I was trying to borrow a stool from the workers so I could do some of the higher shelves.  The power was out and everyone was resting, so I tried to ask the guy sitting on the stool if he was still using it.

I think he was going to give it to me, but I had seen them using it earlier and didn't want to take it if they weren't done.  He didn't understand what I was saying, so a couple people around us joined in the conversation.  Pretty soon every single worker in the salon was facing me as I'm standing in the little hallway door, with full welding masks still in place so I can't really see their faces, and I'm mumbling about the wanting the stool but not if it's still busy.... basically just not getting anywhere.  So finally I pointed at the stool and said "same-same," and a chorus of "ahhhhhhhhhs" filled the room and they all started bustling around and produced a second stool.  It's definitely a magic phrase around here, and can be used in almost any situation, as I found out.

It's been interesting to be working down below more often than not this week, as I can see the progress happening right before my eyes.  More and more details are falling into place and she's looking more and more like a boat every day.  The green "boot stripe" was painted yesterday and today, wood trim went around the remaining hatches and entranceways, the mirrors and faucets are in the bathrooms, the letters are in place on the stern (except for one, we can't figure out why the b in harbour is missing), a lot of wiring is installed on the masts, and some of the sails have arrived!  It's all very exciting.  I've discovered new favorite noodle packages from Tesco so I've stayed in a couple nights this week for dinner, although we did have a delicious dinner last night at our favorite Italian place.  Ok I gotta head to bed now... I hope everyone is doing well and keep sending me emails!
