as for the nightlife... it is pretty much non existent end of april it seems.

reunited with the irish/english gang we went on a search for a good spot on friday night but there was nothing going on. some couples in the salsa bar, more couples in the upscale club inside the walled city, and of course, prostitutes hanging around every where else. went home frustrated at 4am.

during the day cartagena is definitely more fun. good (and expensive) restaurants, a nice fort and a very picturesque city together with a cuba-like colorscheme and laid back feeling. people are very dark & carribean looking here, very different from bogota and medellin (well, you cant really tell in medellin since you have to look past 10 plastic surgeries first)

spent thu & sat night with a german-teaching couchsurfer and her friends but still, nightlife does not even come close to bogota. its supposed to be better during high season, but im not sure. if only bogota was a bit warmer and at the coast... :)

the 5 star hotels in the walled city seem to attract some gringo tourist couples with money instead of the usual colombia visitors.

spent sunday checking out the beacher near the mini-manhattan that is the penninsula of bocagrande full with high-rise hotels and appartment-buildings. and the beach was terrible, really terrible. time to move to a proper beach i thought and i quickly ordered a door-to-door shared minivan  to santa marta for the next day.

jackygb says:
i guess beaches in Santa Marta were not better, aren' they? you should have visited Baru Island, close to cartagena, and the Rosario Island, white sand and clear blue water... Schade!! Ein nächstes Mal. Gruss
