Skiing in Breckinridge, Colorado
I stayed over after a business trip to Colorado to ski a couple of day at Breckinridge. My son, Jared, is working as a ski lift operator at the Breckinridge Resort this winter, so it was a great opportunity to stop in and see him while I was in Colorado. My sister, Terri, also lives in Colorado, and she and her 7 year old twin sons were able to join us as well. The twins had never skied before, so we put them in ski school for the day. We checked in on them throughout the day to see how they were progressing. They looked so cute on their skis with their helmets and goggles! They really seemed to be having fun too -- as we got no complaints when we stopped by nor any requests to stop the lessons!
Terri and I skied with Jared and two of his friends -- but they were all on snowboards.
We had a great time exploring the mountain. It was fairly cold and windy, so we had to stay bundled up pretty well. I had hoped for spring like conditions as we were skiing in March -- but it was more like January conditions this week! The snowboarders spent some time at the terrain park riding rails, doing jumps and clowning around. I had fun trying to get some action shots of them as they played.
Around 3:30 we checked in again on Taylor and Garrett at the ski school, as it was time for class to be over. Both got a good report from their teacher, and we were told they were ready to ride the ski lifts and try some green beginner slopes. We took them on a nearby lift, and both were a little nervous about the ride up to the top.
Taylor did great getting down the hill -- he did his snowplowing really well and could slow down and stop on command. Garrett had a bit more trouble with stopping -- I think his leg's were tired. I ended up helping him down the last part of the mountain when he was giving up by standing behind him and holding my ski poles together across his chest and then skiing him down. I think he was glad to have his uncle along to get him back to the lodge! We all went out for burgers afterwards at Empire Grill in Breckinridge. The twins were worn out after the big day of skiing and dinner -- it took them no time to fall asleep that night!
