Bulls and horses

Pont Van Gogh at Langlois

The painting of Vincent van Gogh I like most is The Bridge at Langlois. The wooden bridge still exists and nowadays it is known as Pont Van Gogh. So I had to see it.  Being situated 1 km south of Arles now was the chance. I even was able to walk over it!

The Camargue is formed by the river Rhône into a great natural site. It offers wetlands, shallow lagoons filled with sea water (salt industry), marshes, lakes, pastures and sand dunes. A gorgeous area! At La Capelière there's an information centre and a mapped nature walk with wonderful views over lakes (many birds) and lagoons (flamingoes). Near Salin de Giraud I met some wild white horses and a herd of bulls, of which most of them will act in the bullring at Arles. The larger bulls are sold to Spain. I was told that the Camargue horses are direct descendants of prehistoric horses.
