The King Who Loves Cocks
Who cares if I slept well the night before or not and how much sleep I got? Really, who? It was a trip to Ayuthaya this day and we were joined in by a guide whose name I do not remember, so I'll just call him Kuya #2. He's the son of Kuya Chok's boss. Kuya Chok is not exactly our guide and he doesn't know much about Bangkok and the nearby cities that's why Kuya #2 is with us.
Entries to the Ayuthaya ruins are not free unless you're a Thai so Kuya Chok had to pretend that he's a Thai because it was his first time there and he really wanted to go with us inside. If I remember it right (most likely not) he told us that he's been in Thailand for only a couple of years. But Kuya Chok ended up paying for the entrance because it turns out that his acting was much worse than his Thai.
While walking around the ruins under the extreme heat, Kuya #2 informed us very well of the history of Ayuthaya. I'm thinking of even sharing to you right now whatever I remembered of the story he told us without any help of Wikipedia and here it is:
Once upon a time, in a land called Ayuthaya, two to three hours of drive (or more perhaps) from and to Bangkok, there was a huge kingdom governed by a wise and good king. Three other kings from three other kingdoms were jealous of the great success Ayuthaya was enjoying that they decided to make an alliance to destroy the glorious days of the said kingdom (Ayuthaya). So the surprise attack happened when the people of Ayuthaya weren't expecting it. Ayuthaya was attacked and destroyed and so ended the glorious days of the said kingdom (Ayuthaya).
I'm surprised I even remembered something and who needs Wikipedia anyway?! Anyway, so we were in Ayuthaya. Eka and I got ourselves each a photographer (Kuya Chok and Kuya #2). The place didn't have much people except for a group of Japanese tourists. One of the things that are very noticing in this place were the beheaded Buddha statues scattered everywhere. The ruthless suprise attackers of Ayuthaya once upon a time ago did it to humiliate the poor people of the said kingdom (Ayuthaya). OK fine, I'm going to stop with my creative writing now. I'm not really a very helpful travel writer here.
We climbed at one of the temples where we had a really nice view of the whole Ayuthaya ruins. It was huge. The kingdom even stretches out to the other side of the high way.
It was a difficult climb down, well for me at least because the others laughed their bahts off when they saw me taking 20 seconds a step and they were already halfway down the temple and I was still just 3 steps down from the top. Fear of heights is serious, never be like that to anybody. It will cause death. I swear I could've killed them if only I wasn't way behind.Somewhere a few minutes drive from Ayuthaya we stopped by a roundabout where a monument of another former king once upon a time ago stands. This king loves cocks very much that his monument were surrounded by cock statues, big and small, in silver or in assorted colors. You must definitely see it for yourself too.
A couple of minutes from there we drove to a temple named Wat Phu Kao Thong and climbed it.
We went inside a small chapel and I tried to say some prayers though I'm not buddhist. For lunch, Kuya #2 recommended a place for us to eat and said it was gonna be cheap so I was up for it. But before that we stopped by a craft village somewhere I really really do not know on the way to the restaurant. It's like an open air museum (or maybe it is an open air museum) where you get to see traditional Thai houses and well... crafts. It wasn't far from where we had lunch. Kuya #2 ordered the food for us and I was happy it was all good. But not very happy when I found out how much it cost. I was angry that I didn't talk until we got back to Bangkok. Me and Eka paid for the food and we knew that but we didn't knew how much the food were going to cost.
It was really really good but still I got angry. Grumpy Granny. It was late in the afternoon when finally we were back in Bangkok. We went to a mall and it was fun because there's so many interesting things we saw there. Would have been more interesting if we got to buy some of them. I only talked to Kuya #2 again when we said goodbye to him. We had McDonald's for dinner (got a crush on a guy who works there hahaha felt better finally) which only costs about 7.5% of how much we paid for lunch! Back in our place, we checked out the internet cafe a few blocks away and joined in with the 7 yr olds again (different kids. children flock the internet cafes to play games. same case in the Philippines).
