After putting off packing for what seemed like weeks, we finally loaded up the suitcases into the car. We are driving to my old hometown to allow my sisters to drive us to the Detroit, MI airport.
Excitement is high for both of us. Emilia has not seen her parents in well over 2 years, and of course I have only ever talked to them on the phone. We even avoided doing a webcam conference call so that we could see each other in person first.
I keep joking with Emilia that I am excited about going behind the "Iron Curtain". She is not amused. Will be interesting to see how badly Communism ruined her country. She has told me stories of beautiful buildings being torn down to make way for concrete monoliths for the old government.
Wish us luck!
