He has a small house in town and a family consisting of a wife and three kids.  They, in turn bring their friends over to see the foreign vistor, the first Westerner they have ever seen.  We pose for photos and I'm taken around town for a walking tour.  That evening we eat a well prepared dinner that includes a greyish whitish dish that looks like cottage cheese and tastes like some kind of meat.  Find out it's goat brain.  Next day, a family friend offers to take me and kids on a drive in his old white Lada to the top of the mountain to see the fortress and the views.  From there we drive to see the beach, but never made it.  On the way, as we passed through a rural intersection, I looked out my side window to see an old brown Mercedes (probaby the only one in the country?) barrelling down on us without seeing us.

The accident
He slams into my side of the car, striking just between the front and back doors.  Glass flies everwhere and in the aftermath, I realize my glasses are missing.  I'm pale as we get out of the car to inpect the damage to ourselves and later to the cars.  I find my glasses in a pool of mud some 10 feet away and realize my head is throbing and that there's a cut under my left eye.  Despite the obvious damage to both vehicles for which I'm feeling horribly guilty (afterall I was only reason we were even driving today) no one else is injured.  The car is miraculously still drivable and we limp back to town having aborted our beach trip.  That night I find several shards of glass lodged in the top of my scalp.  I pull out my switchbade knife and gesture to my truck driver friend to help me dig them out.  When he sees the knife his eyes go wide but then I motion to my head and he finally understands.
