Fresh market on Marion square in front of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church on King Street
This past weekend, Jay had his department's retreat in Charleston and I couldn't miss the chance to visit this city. Although I have been there for four times, I can always use a short vacation :) There is good amount of history, great beaches and good seafood in this citiy. Although I like the architecture and the sense of the city, King Street which is one of the main streets , seemed to be a bit like a big open air mall. Yes, the buildings are old, but the names on the buildings are nothing other than "Banana Republic" , J.Crew, Ann Taylor etc..etc..etc...  It will be a sad thing if the city loses its charm because of this uniformity happening everywhere.

Hopefully our next trips will be to the other sister cities of Charleston : Savannah and Beaufort.

There is not much to say ... Enjoy the pictures... Here is the city of the roomy porches and hidden gardens behind the iron gates.

Ilke, I agree with your assessment of the commercialism seemingly overtaking the beautiful storefronts. Overall, I think the city still remains a gem with it's rich history and southern charm. I still like the ghost tours and the trips down rainbow row on the battery. We too hope to get down to Savannah at some point in the future. Please post your visit. I look forward to getting some information on that city.

Regards,
