Climbed Mount Fuji, Japan 21-22 August 2005 12,300 feet (3,700 meters) 8 hours total climbing time to the summit and 4 hours to get down. We rested from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. at the Fuji-san Hotel at 3,200 meters elevation near gates 7-8. Jeff from Itasca, IL Tim from Neenah , WI

Jeff Climbed Mount Fuji, Japan 21-22 AUG 05

Jeff climbed Mount Fuji to 12,300 feet (3,700 meters): 10 hrs. up and 4 hrs. down. Jeff's climbing buddy was Tim from WI who he met on the way to the volcanoes. Mt. Fuji is actually 3 volcanoes merged together. The weather was aweful but Tim was able to get a shelter at the "Fuji-san Hotel" (better described as a "shack" shelter) on the side of the mountain where Jeff had a beer at 3,200 meters.

Juan, GREAT QUESTIONS!!

You can only climb Mount Fuji in July and August--no September climbing--the weather gets aweful near the end of August up there (over 3,300 meters). We took the most popular path so it was a bit more crowded than the other ~8 ways to get to the top. End of July and first 2 weeks of August have better weather. The large groups of Japanese all wearing the same colored/type raincoats were the most difficult to pass...along with a Rugby team freezing to death with just their red jersey shirts. Usually, you can pass the groups on the more open areas and be totally alone for a couple hours in between, even on the most popular routes. I think we only passed one large group in the 4 hours going downhill. The worst part was the groups of Japanese who left the stupid and annoying JINGLE BELLS on their walking sticks!!!! Take those #%^&#@ things off! I mention it in the video....

Good luck with your climb and take Momiji with you--she might need some encouragement!!! ;-)

but 10hors up and 4 hours down.. ohhh... i really need to work out so hard!! how cold was it up there? it's august but it seems it doesn't matter..lol
