In june 2003 we took aplane to Arrecife on Lanzarote to go diving with Safari diving. When the plane started to descent I got a pain in my teeth and after a minute it was gone again. I didn't pay attention and after landing we took the bus to Puerto Del Carmen where we checked in our appartment. After we checked in at Safari Diving we had diner and went to bed early because we had to start diving early in the morning. Our first dive was at the house reef called Chica Playa. Jim a dive master took us down for this dive and after 10 metres I got this pain again in my teeth.
I tried to descent again and I couldn't go deeper so I had to go up again. I made an appointment at a dentist and next morning I went to see him. This German dentist saw that my tooth was cracked and he repared it so I could go diving again. The same day we dove to several wrecks. Very impressive with it schools of fish surrounding it. We saw a moray eel, seespider, large stingray and lots of colourful fish. While we were walking back to the appartment we passed a small Spanish bodega. This bodega was very popular with the locals. The food was very good. I speak a little Spanish and so we could make clear what we wanted to eat. 2 nice guys owned the bodega and the rest of the week we went here with the locals to have lunch. The next day we made our first dive at the housereef again and we saw an octopus and a large seastar crawling by, fantastic!! The second dive was at Richies Place.
Mayke preparing for diving.
When we went back to shore by boat I was allowed to sail the boat back to shore. Hilarious because I went from left to right over the water not able to keep the boat in one straight line. That evening we went for a nightdive. I wasn't allowed to join them because I only was an open water diver, but after some convinsing words from Mayke I could join them. We saw a lot of nice things, hunting Sepia's, huge stingrays, Shrimp hunting a small octopus, Stonefish, seacucumbers, and lots more. After diving three times that day we went to bed early. At day 5 we dove again at the house reef and we saw a large Stargazer. The last day we saw an Angelshark so we could look back at a very nice week of diving.

Cruising the island
The last day we rented a car to go exploring the island.
It almost never rains on the island so the water you drink or you wash yourself with is purified water. On the south side of the island you find the Timanfaya National Park. In 1730 there was one of the biggest vulcanic eruptions that the world ever knew. The eruption lastet for 6 years and spit thousands of tons of lava in the air. The Park is 52 square kilometres tall. Here you'll find a restaurant in the park with a barbeque that's heated with the warmth of the innervulcano. After visiting the park we drove to Mirador del Rio. Here you'll find a small island near the coast, with its small yacht harbour it's very popular by the jetset. From here we went to Cuevas de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua. At Cuevas de los Verdes you see the end of an 8 kilometres long lavatube which is formed during an eruption 5000 years ago. In another lavatube ,the one from Jameos del Agua, you'll find a beautiful lake. Around the lake they built bars and restaurants and a concertarena with a very good acoustic. In the water you'll find thousands of small blind crabs.
