What's a little rain...

Simpson Creek getting ready to spill over the road. County officials were watching the road preparing to close it should the need arise.

A little rain would have been fine.  A lot of rain would have been OK if it had fallen on drier soil.  But we had just finished melting a foot of snow over weekend and the ground was saturated.  So the water had no place to go.  And when 4.9 inches of rain falls in about 30 hours, well it floods.  And we weren't even the worst.  Down in southern Illinois and Missouri some locations had over 12 inches of rain.  The lower Mississippi is going to be dealing with a lot of water the next few days.

There's some amazing pictures on the news sites from areas on the river not to far from where I live that were completely inundated this afternoon.  Unfortunately they are copyrighted, so you are stuck with some poor photos I took driving in to work this morning.
