A late season snowstorm
Now I'm sure some of you will pooh-pooh a measly 1+ foot snowfall, but this doesn't happen too often in Ohio other than the areas right off of the Great Lakes (lake effect snow). So when spring is just around the corner and we end up with one of the largest statewide snowstorms ever it merits some mention. Snow started Friday morning as I went to work and by the time I went home around 4:30 PM we had about 3-5 inches.
Media was going with the round the clock coverage of the white death with the special, super-duper, all-encompassing, kicks the other station's ass radars highlighting the snow we had gotten and all the snow we were set to recieve. Of course what was funny was that after so many storms went bust this year (a 6" prediction became an inch or two plus rain, another snow event turned into freezing rain) forecasters initially ended up way under the actual totals (most called for 6 inches or so).
What fun to wake up this morning to more than a foot of snow and still more falling from the sky. Went out to get the pictures about noon and ended up helping several of the clueless folks trying to get places in their cars. Others had just left cars sitting in the complex parking lot where they had stranded them sometime in the early morning hours. I wandered around for a bit through snow drifts nearly to my waist as the winds had whipped the snow all over the place. All storms must come to an end and when the snow stopped around 3 PM, the clouds quickly cleared in the west and the sun returned to the sky. An amazing sunset reflected off the white surface to end the day.
Now we spring forward tonight and get ready for spring. Yeah right. And tomorrow, I get to try to get my car out of its snowy cave. Should be fun.
