How to redecorate using human bones.
August 28, 2008
Way back in the 16th century, when faced with an abundance of human bones and nowhere to put them (they were excavated during a construction project), some monk had a flash of brilliance... “I know! Let’s redecorate!”
The morbid result of this brainstorm can be found in the town of Kutna Hora, 44 miles (70km) south of Prague. There, we visited a church that is dressed to the nines in skulls, femurs, tibias, and every other bone in the human body. The church reportedly houses the remains of 40,000 souls. Some final resting place.
You just can’t help but feel a morbid fascination for this place. I mean, it’s REALLY bizarre! There is a chandelier made of bones. Bone garland. Four enormous bone PYRAMIDS. Crazy.
Although it’s 1:15 from the city and kind of a hassle to get to, this one’s definitely worth a look. No bones about it. :^) Hee hee.
