The trials, tribulations and triumphs of six months on the road. Thanks for your smiles, comments and messages -- keep them coming!

Blown away.

I woke up many times during the night and felt happy to be in a stone structure. Anything lighter could well have blown away! The wind howled over the building, slamming doors, crashing windows, and carrying off anything that wasn’t tied down. Crazy night. I would not have been surprised to see a cow fly by the window.

In the morning we found that the electricity in the hotel was out. This caused no alarm to the staff -- just another day here on Mt Nemrut. I take it this happens a lot. They struggled to light the fire to make the tea. (I bet if they hadn’t been successful we would have seen some panic -- nothing can happen without tea!)

We had our breakfast, and reconfirmed our planned route to Sanliurfa. Looks like a pretty easy three-hour drive. Paid our bill, and off we went. Another day, another town.
