Where our day began...and eventually ended. :-(

I not only arrived at Disneyland on time, but was 5 minutes early to meet Warren!  I am sitting outside the World of Disney store, aching to go in but I will be good as Warren will be here any minute!  Quick look at the watch, 11:05 still.  11:06, 11:07, geez being early sucks!  11:10 rolls around and hmmm...no Warren.  My phone rings and oh, gee, what a surprise - it's Warren!  He's close by and after battling the parking snafus, he arrives about 20 minutes later.  And in true TravBuddy fashion, what do we do right away but whip out the cameras to get photos of each other!!!! LOL.

But wait, Warren instantly realizes something.

So close.....lemme in, lemme in!!
...his annual pass is missing! He claims he had it in his hand on the tram.  So, we go on our own scavenger hunt and quickly realize this is a waste of time.  Now comes the quandry, Warrren's pass expires on Saturday and it costs $20 for a replacement one.  He has a couple options: pay the $20 replacement fee, renew his annual pass, or just forget it and face the wrath of the disappointed Disney Queen!! :-))  The last option is obviously not the smart choice so we head over to Guest Services to see what we can do.  Warren manages to charm the girl at Guest Services and she gives him a complimentary use pass for the day in case someone actually turns his in.

We go through the turnstyle and I am off and running only to turn around and find out I am talking to myself.

Warren at the principal's office!
Where is Warren?!?!  And here I just thought the guy next to me was smiling to be polite!  Because Warren has been bad and lost his pass, he doesn't have one with a barcode (allows him to get Fast Passes that keep us from standing in horrendous lines for rides) and the Cast Member tells him it's his punishment for losing his pass.  She tells him to head to this little building off to the left and ask for one with a barcode (it was like being sent to the principal's office).

FINALLY, we are off to ride some rides!!  We head over to Space Mountain which turns out to be Warren's favorite ride.  Stand by line says 10 minutes....25 minutes (and no air conditioning) later, we finally get through the line and manage to get front seats! SWEET!   After that we wander in circles for a bit and turn back to Red Rocket's Pizza Port for lunch (and sorry Mel, I forgot to be a good foodie and take photos of our lunch!!!).

On the Rivers of America with the Mark Twain
After enjoying some yummy but probably overpriced pasta, we continued on our tour of the park, walking practically every square inch to work off our high carb lunch!

We wandered through Frontierland and stopped by Rivers of America to take some photos.  It was the perfect day to take photos as Disneyland was very empty and most of the rides had lines of 10 minutes or less.  I've always loved the design of the buildings and rides in the park and this provided the perfect opportunity to photograph some of my favorites.  Of course, unbeknownst to Warren, part of my master photo plan included a stop with none other than my favorite character, Pooh Bear of course!! :-)  First stop though.

Freddie the Bat (upside down so he can read it) We'll miss you
..my favorite rides - Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion.

I have to admit I am amazed we did not get thrown off Pirates since "someone" had trouble with keeping their flash from going off and I think they yelled at us twice during the ride!! :-)  Since I was the good guest, most of my photos did not come out in the ride as it was too dark.  Disney recently updated the ride and added several animatronics of Johnny Depp and one of Barbosa as well.   Although I love Johnny Depp, I was not thrilled to see the references to the modern day movies the first time I went on it.  It's slowly growing on me though and I'm sure a couple more times around and I will love it.

Next, we wandered the shops in New Orleans Square and then headed off to Haunted Mansion.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride
I love all the graveyard tombstones and the accompanying witty inscriptions.  I tried to get better photos in Haunted Mansion but again, had some issues with no light.  A majority of my slightly enormous Disney collection includes ride memoribilia from both HM and Pirates. If only I had the room and the money, I'd have my own Disneyland at home!!! :-)

So, now it was off to hit my favorite part of the park.....Critter Country and Pooh's Corner.  And oh, what a surprise, there just happens to be a Pooh photo stop!  Hmmmm, stand in line for 30 minutes for Splash Mountain and get drenched or go visit Pooh.  Amazingly, Warren chose Pooh - he musta really not wanted to get wet!!! You will note a photo with Warren's happy face as we stood in the photo line.

With the infamous Mickey and Walt statue
I was one of only like 3 adults getting their photos taken but what did I care!!! :-)  So, imagine, it's finally our turn (couldn't convince Warren to get his photo taken though) and Warren's camera goes out! A planned coincidence?!?!?!  Thank heaven for those Disney photographers and lots of space on my memory card.  Some more fidgeting with his camera and we were off headed to Disney's California Adventure (DCA) so Warren could ride the Screamin' rollercoaster for the first time.

On our way back to Main St, we stopped at every touristy photo stop and even took pictures in front of the Walt and Mickey statue on Main Street.  In all the years I've been going to Disney, I've NEVER been able to get near that for a photo opportunity without a bunch of people walking through the photo or in the background!  This is also we where mourn the loss of Warren's camera as his 2nd set of batteries give up the ghost.

Paradise Pier
On the way out, Warren was a great sport and let me stop at Disneyana which is my favorite store, and often the cause of the continued depletion of my travel fund!! :-)

By now, it's already 3:15 and my feet are getting tired but it's time to head to DCA! I had comfy flip flops on but still had blisters forming.  I don't think my tootsies recovered yet from all the dancing at the LV TB meet the weekend before! So, being the die hard Disney fanatic I am, I just bite my lip and keep on going!  Warren and I talk about all our favorite things at Disney and it's amazing how much we actually have in common (scary, I know).  Once through the gates and the five minute delay while they manually enter Warren's temp pass again, we are off to ride  the roller coaster.

Warren in motion!
Now, for those who've never been there, it's not a "E-ticket" ride, it would be more like a "G-ticket" ride!!  Not as gut-churning like a Six Flags park but definitely kudos to Disney for growing up.  Now, since this was Warren's first time on and I was feeling cocky, I thought I would try to photo document our ride on the coaster.  There are some amazing views from various points but I learned the hard way it was rather hard to aim a camera when you getting jolted around and trying to keep your flip flops from flying off!  Now, if I had the forethought, I should've tried to video the whole ride, especially with the added sound effects of Warren's screams!  :-)

The day is winding down now and we have plans to hit a couple more things.

Grizzly Rapids
...there is a great soft serve ice cream place in Paradise Pier and I thought it was best to wait until after Screamin so I didn't give the ice cream back on the ride!  I go straight up to the window as I dismiss Warren's chatter about them being closed.  I've been craving this ice cream, they can't be closed, how can they be closed?  I saw people getting cones when we headed to the roller coaster.  I felt like the Mervyn's commercial with the crazy ladies at the door going "open, open, open".  Warren spots a lady and is such a gentleman to go up and find out what's going on.  What do you mean the machine's broke?!?!  Nooooooooooo.  Warren spouts some cliche about seizing the opportunity when I had it....blah blah blah.
Soarin Over California
 LOL.  :-))

It's not like I really needed the ice cream anyways - I am supposed to be dieting to combat the added poundage from the holidays and an injury that kept me off my feet for a couple months recently  (oh yes....the SOBER tumble down the stairs on my last Belize trip that resulted in a couple broken bones in my foot).   So, yeah - let's keep walking and finish our last ride since Warren has to leave before he turns into a pumpkin at 5pm!

Sadly, we wander the last part of DCA and finish off at the Soarin Over California ride.  That is such an awesome ride and I highly recommend it if you visit the park.  It's a simulated hang glider and depicts various California locations, complete with other sensory enhancements.

Tram ride out....say bye Warren!
It's a great ride and I never get tired of going on it every time I visit (ok, yeah, I never get tired of any ride, I know).  Hard to believe the day is already over and it's time to get on the 91 fwy and battle rush hour traffic back to Torrance.  I had such a great day and think I succeeded in guilting Warren to renew his annual pass so I have a continued TB Disney buddy.  Plus, it would prove to be a necessity when he starts his side gig as the unofficial TB tour guide for Disneyland!! :-)

Until next time.....TTFN!
