Landing at Hong Kong International airport in Lantau island was really a memorable experience. As we were descending, all i could see was a thick blanket of clouds and water below. For a moment, as the plane keeps gliding down, one starts to think, cmon! where the hell is the runway...:) and then suddenly the black surface appears surrounded by sea and what a thrilling landing! great start!
Huge steel structure airport & easy to follow directions. A brief subway ride took me to the passport checking area & then to the arrival lounge. A lot of tourist service counters with maps & guides so one easily gets most of the information about how to get around or reach your hotel. Do look for Hongkong street walks guide, really nice guide.
Since i was on a budget travel so i opted to stay at USA hostel (Mirador Mansion) in Tsim Sha Tsui area, Nathan road.
The location was really ideal & central. Tsim Sha Tsui is highly recommended. It was almost evening after i checked in and settled and decided to check out the surrounding areas. Just a short stroll away on Nathan road towards harbour i passed by the HK space museum dome, the clock tower, Cultural centre & museum of Art, the famous avenue of stars area where you can witness the spectacular view of HK Island. At 8pm they show a laser light show and the view is worth watching from this side of HK.
Going back towards mirador mansion, i checked out the Ashley street (famous for foreign cuisines), had my dinner there and then the parklane shoppers boulevard a unique & pleasant walking area, surrounding the Kowloon park. I had a wonderful first evening in HK.
