Cairo Museum: My Biggest Candy Shop

Cairo Travel Blog › entry 1 of 30 › view all entries

I spent 5 months living, breathing, eating and dreaming ancient Egypt. I visited everything from the Great Pyramids to the remote and desolate tombs of Tell-el Amarna to the awe-inspiring statues of Ramses II at Abu Simbel. Here are my stories and adventures - the good the bad and the archaeological.

Cairo Museum: My Biggest Candy Shop

Akhenaten's coffin top, maybe.
- The Cairo Museum is massive!  And packed floor to ceiling with the most spectacular, important and truly unique Ancient Egyptian artifacts.  You could spend weeks there and not see everything.
-
Notable items: bracelet with Djer's name on it, death masks with the skulls still attached, Menkaure Triad, Seneb statue, Rahotep and Nofret statues, Djoser ka statue, burial goods of Queen Hetepheres, Khufu statue, statues of Hatshepsut, statue of Tuthmosis III, a mummified dog and baboon who were friends, Akhenaton's coffin, the Amarna Letters, statues of Akhenaton and Nefertiti, statues of Ramesses II, Tutankhamun's burial goods, Narmer palette, coffin lid of Ramesses II, burial goods of Yuya and Thuya, statue of Kafre, statue of Mentuhotep, mummified shrew in its own sarcophagus, two golden mummies from the Bahariya Oasis, copper statue of Pepi I, and the mummies of Seti I, Merenptah, Ramesses II, and Tuthmosis III.  Whoo!  And that's just touching the surface.
