First Day
March 6, 2008
We got an early start (up by 9am), had coffee, packed, and loaded the car. The sun just broke thru the clouds as we pulled away. The 10:45 ferry was on time and we made it with 10 minutes to spare.
Port Angeles is about half way to Forks, and has a nice downtown area right on the Straights of Juan De Fuca. We had a nice lunch buffet at an Indian place and walked around the port area.
About 15 miles west of Port Angeles the road winds along the shore of Crescent Lake. We stopped about 6 times at different vista points and took pictures or just looked.
The drive from Crescent Lake to Forks was only about an hour, so we had time to drive to the ocean shore in La Push, a little Native American town. It was a bit windy and chilly, but the waves were about 5-7 feet and there are lots of cool rock formations. It would be a nice place to explore in warmer weather.
We drove back out to the highway and down to Forks, about 20 minutes, and went to some local shops. They had an internet cafe so we stopped, shared a mocha, and I uploaded a few pictures to my blog.
Next entry will be about our first lodging place.
