The Ditty is east up the Alafia River just a bit. Come on what else are you doing? We won't be long, I promise to have you back in time for diner. The Alafia River (Hunting River) is about 25 miles long-watershed of 335 sq. miles-flows into Tampa Bay-was home to Tocobaga Indians- expeditions of Pánfilo de Narváez and Hernando de Soto made the first written account and charting the first maps of the Alafia River in the 16th century. History class is over, hang on here we go!! How do you describe the Ditty? It is a little cove with a very small spring that somehow has become a weekend boating destination. People anchor up & party down. They arrive early in the morning & stay most of the day. There is some fishing, swimming & tree swinging, but mostly Beer Drinking & BSing in the Florida Sun. I don’t know if it is the high pollen count, but there seems to be a lot of coughing on some of the boats. This boat ride is on Friday afternoon, so it will be quite with almost no traffic. The week ends are quite busy! Enjoy the sights!
