Arrived late evening from Singapore. After checking in we met up with 'roamingduck' and our daughter who we had not seen since mid September.
Following day we took the excellent public service catamaran ferry for a ride down the Brisbane River. Having disembarked at the Riverside landing stage, we had a coffee and then strolled back through the Botanical Gardens and then through the city.
Central Brisbane is an impressive place: modern business district skyscrapers combined with leafy open spaces to make it pleasurable to stroll about. Along the south bank of the river we found a lagoon to have a cooling swim or just relax. There are some very good restaurants and nightlife around the city.
The following day, we boarded the early morning 'Sunlander' train bound for Cairns. This was an overnight service, getting into Cairns at 1600 hrs the following day. The sleeper cabin was comfortable and actually sleeping was good - perhaps the motion of the train had a soporific effect. Having had enough of flying, we had chosen the train as a way of seeing some of the country.
