It is Old School Motorcycle Camping equipment check- up time. It's time to get ready for this camping season, of course all equipment was put up with the extreme care the last time it was used. These pictures are taken in the back yard, because it is so much better to find out here, something needs to be replaced, then in BFE 25 miles from any store. Woke up early this morning took a look at my assembled zip lock bags of camping stuff said “Damm” got my keys headed to the store 1 more time.
Got to try the new tour pack-22 x in. W x 12 in. D x 23 in. W Mounts to sissy bar with three elastic straps and an adjustable nylon web strap- quick release buckles, works & looks much better than a black duffel bag & 17 bungee cords.
I have camped off the back of a motorcycle for many years, have tried about every kind of different equipment there is out there. Some of it worked great & I am still using it, & will continue to use as long as I camp. On the other side of the coin, I have spent a lot of money, time & effort on junk that looked good in the wrapper & wasn’t worth a Toot in the woods where it needed to work as described. Do not take anything camping without removing it from the wrapper & trying it out, a long ago biter lesson learned.
KISS-keep it simple stupid, it does not have to be fancy or have a designer name on it to be functional, which is what’s really important.
Keep everything small, compact, compressed, light weight.
A vast majority of my equipment comes from Walmart for a number of reasons. Things are inexpensive, good variety , you can get about everything you need, & they are EVERYWHERE.
I still spend a few minutes in the camping dept. of whatever store I am in, just looking for new things that are smaller, lighter & work better. It just has to work for you.
Check the MOTORCYCLE CAMPING Group from time to time for information & updates on everything related to MOTORCYCLE CAMPING!
Camp Often, Have Fun, Ride Safe
Motorcycle camping food is very important & can be cheap, nourishing & fun with a little forethought. Now you can go to web to sites with names like wilderness dining, camp recipes or my personal favorite Camp Food Planner. OSBMCC plan is to go stand in front of the pantry see what looks good & will still eatable after being crammed in the grub bag for a few days. If you don’t see enough, start a list, then go to the refrigerator, there has to be something good in there, no, add what you need to the list, head for the store again!
Remember you are not going to cook every meal, if you are on the road you are not going to stop, set up to make lunch, clean up, re pack, then get back on the road, NOT!! Lunch is where you try to find AMERICA’S BEST CHEESEBURGER, FRIES & APPLE PIE SERVED IN a TOWN-SQUARE RESTURANT by a WAITTRESS named FLO.
Breakfast is what motorcycle camp food is all about. There will be the smell BACON cooking, the eggs will be slightly burnt & you cup of coffee will be strong, hotter than Hell & have the minimum 1/32 inch of grounds in the bottom of your cup.
Yes Life is GOOD!!
UPS brought the new backpack , all I need now is to get the RoadKing out of the Scootpistal & I can go MOTORCYCLE CAMPING. Soon Very Soon.
