Gallaghers Pub on St. Paddys Day-Long Beach
I wasn't going to to out tonight. It has been a long week and I just got back from Las Vegas last night. But....how could I resist? My good friend Porter calls me up and says he is at Gallaghers Pub, conveniently one block from my house. His text says, "At Gallaghers, totally worth it!"
Ok, so I was game. I can do ONE beer. I threw on some clothes, grabbed my purse and headed down the street. It was pretty early, around 4:30pm and I had just gotten home from work. I walk straight to the entrance, but the bouncer tells me there is a line. Damn! I stand in line, thinking, "I will never get into this place!"
Its a good thing I spot one of my neighbors. Tim is inside the pub already and is having a smoke and a green beer on the packed outside patio.
I tell him I have been waiting for about 10 minutes, and he motions for me to jump the fence. I look around, and there are a lot of people that would see me if I did."I don't want to get in trouble!" I say.
He holds out his hand and says if I jump now, the bouncer won't see me. I grab his hand and jump the fence and duck down. It works! The bouncer didn't see, and the other people in line didn't say anything. Sweet! Now I don't have to pay the 10 dollars to get in. I thank Tim for his help and push my way inside to find my friends.
Gallaghers is bumpin. There is a great crowd (good looking guys and girls) the band is loud and playing some traditional Irish music. Some old man puts a shamrock sticker on my cheek and there are little people dressed up like leprechans running around taking pictures with everyone.
Alright, this looks fun, maybe I will have more than one drink....I meet up with my friends Porter, Dave, and some girls they work with. They have been here since 2pm and the party is just getting started. Porter has already gotten me a beer, so I start drinking right away. The girls order some food but the boys and I stick to beer. After a couple of shots, the night gets a little cloudy. A couple other friends arrive, JJ, Lorena and Eric and we all belly up to the bar and start taking pictures. The service here is great tonight, they have a ton of bartenders helping out, and we never wait to long to get a drink. Cute guys wearing Kilts have fun taking pictures with us and we all start dancing.
The band is great. They play an upbeat mix of traditional Irish songs, U2 classics and Bar tunes re-worked with Irish beats. We dance and dosi-do like fools. A couple of guys playing bagpipes parade through the pub and a drum line plays outside. Time for more shots!
The rest of the night is a little foggy. I stayed until about 12:30am and stumbled home. It was a great night, super fun. This is definitley the place to be in Long Beach on St. Paddys day!
