Ice Day Ice Blog

I get this question a lot "So, you don't have kids. What DO you do on your snow days?" A "snow day" is when the weather is so bad they can't get school busses through and the district gets a day off (that we'll need to make up later, usually). Here's what I do on a snow day.

8:30 a.m. - Here we go again.  Only this time, snow didn't get us: lots of ice did.

When you vote, they give you little badges that say something like "I voted today", or "Exercise the right... vote".  Ads, especially for younger voters announce "It's the right of all Americans... VOTE!" and I even saw one that said "Good Americans vote for leaders, causes, and issues."  If that's indeed the case, I'd like it to be known that I'm a good American.  I braved inches of ice and really NASTY weather conditions to vote last night! :)  When Dan and I got back to his truck, a pretty good sized branch had broken out of the tree over his truck due to the heaviness of the ice and was dangling inches from his roof.  According to radio reports, only about 45% of our area made it out to vote yesterday.  My friend in Cleveland walked about a mile in the driving, icy crud to vote as well.

My grape vines are coated with ice. Ice wine, anyone?
We're Exercising the Right! J

No surprise I didn't have school today. 2 area counties are under a Level 3, MANY (including mine) are under a level 2, and the rest are level 1.  When you step outside, you can hear trees creaking and ice snapping.  It's VERY reminiscent of 3 years ago and that really terrible ice storm (read about what a little over 2 inches of ice will due to an area in my "Hometown Weather Woes" blog.)  We have about half the ice of that storm.  Part of our town was out of power for a couple hours last night.  There are some areas that (as of 8:30 a.m. this morning) are still out of power.  We never lost it. J

So here I am, again… facing another make-up day.

However, the House in Ohio passed a bill that would allow schools to add a half an hour to their school day instead of making up the days.  I think I would like that.  I can ALWAYS use more time with the kids.  Our extra half hour days would start after our spring break and go to the end of school.  If we did this, our last day would still be in May, not the second week of June.

Dan called and said Route 199 (the main road to Carey where he works) is nothing short of ridiculous, so I won’t be heading up there to eat.  Mom and I ate at the Pour House.  I ended up spending most of my afternoon practicing organ at the church.  Oh yeah, I stopped by the candy shop for a latte and some Jelly Bellys, too.  The roads are looking pretty dry this evening, so hopefully school will go on time tomorrow.
