I definitely work with some great people! My school is larger than the average hagwon as we have about 15 foreign teachers (English teachers like me from Canada, the US and England) and maybe 20 Korean teachers! Everyone is so fun, friendly and outgoing, its simply hard to not have fun at work or after hours with them! Whether its dancing, drinking, eating, sightseeing, working out, or simply hanging out, its always a good time!
I truly adore my kindergarten co-teacher Sophia! Her Korean name is SungJin and she has been with SLP for about 3 years. When I first started at SLP, my head teacher Tina told me Sophia was voted scariest teacher by the kids last year, so I was a bit nervous to meet her! When I did meet her, she was so open, funny and sweet, I couldn't imagine how she had been voted scariest teacher! This lasted all of a minute before I heard her yell at some students who were misbehaving! She is good! If anyone has trouble with a student, they just bring them to Sophia and she straightens them out! It is entertaining to watch, although I don't think I would want to be in the students' shoes! She is just an all around great person and teacher and I am so lucky to have her as my partner! However, she is getting married and moving to Chicago this September, so as you can imagine, I am not happy about it! Well, of course I am happy she's happy and that at least she's moving to Chicago, which is maybe a $100 flight from Boston, so at least I will get to see her in the future! I know I should be looking forward to meeting my new co-teacher in August, but part of me doesn't want to share ours kids with anyone else! :) At least I have a few months to let it sink in and have the best time I can before she leaves!
