New city, new home...

Bongcheon-dong - my new home

Annyeong Haseyo, which translates to"Are you at peace?", is the commom phrase used to greet one another here in this great city I am fortunate enough to call my new home. And I can't help but express just how at peace I am here in such a minimal amount of time. Per usual, I have adjusted quite well and rather quickly to this new city and new home of mine. I often feel like a bit of a chameleon when it comes to this sort of adaptation and adjustment. While chameleons change their colors due to fear and to protect themselves, at first I also change and blend into my new surroundings often out of fear of the unknown; but with time, that fear diminishes, yet my new colors remain and they soon begin to become part of me.

I am looking forward to this year long journey of mine - of living in this new city, understanding this new culture, shedding my fears and worries and embracing the new changes and experiences heading my way. And really, what better place to do this then in Seoul - a "mosaic of old and new," as described by my trusty Lonely Planet guidebook; a place where modern distinctly meets tradition - a well-defined palatable fusion of traditional street markets, fresh and edgy fashion, ancient palaces, movie theaters, Buddhist temples, internet cafes and game rooms, folk villages, fortresses, cafes, and amazing people...
