We set off early to go trekking for 4 days and 3 night in Aru and Lidderwat. We had packed all the necessary equipment, bought a sack full of food and had all cooking equipment, sleeping bags etc ready. After taking a sumo jeep from Srinagar to Pahalgam we set up camp a few Km's from Aru on the first night. There we met Azir, our guide who would be taking us up to Lidderwat Valley.
The next morning we packed up and trekked from the village of Aru 20Km to the Lidderwat Valley. It's a long trek but very scenic, so no time to get bored. We took an extra horse which we were extremely grateful for, the trek from the site before Aru to the valley is uphilll and hardwork when you are carrying your backpack!
The Lidderwat Valley is serene and uninhabited, so pick up any supplies for Pahalgam, or there are smaller shops in Aru. There are Gujari's (mountainous people) who are around for grazing their buffalo and sheep a few weeks of the year, otherwise be fully prepared for everything. I advise to take a guide from Aru, it is very cheap and only a few hundred rupees per day. And try the local goat's cheese if you can - it's amazing!
