Word of advice!: Rishekesh is not that nice - it is best to make your way up to Ram Jula or Laxman Jula - if you take one of the shared rickshaws from the train or bus station the correct fare per person is: From Rishekesh to Ram Jula = 3 Rupees.. from Rishekesh to Tapovan/Laxmanjula = 5/7 rupees. From Haridwar to Laxmanjula = 25 Rupees. This is no matter if the rickshaw is empty or half full as they pick people up along the way - so please don't be conned with the 70-100 rupees fare they try with tourists!

I stayed in Tapovan, which is very short walk from Laxmanjula and out of the way - so was very pleasant! Monsoon is in full flow here, but there is a mix of weather ranging from hot and humid to cool and humid :) The ganges is very refreshing for swimming, but is safer to go in near Ramjula. If you are taking a dip in at the beautiful beaches of Laxmanjula please bevery careful and take a rope with you that you can tie around a rock and round your waist or wrist - the current is very strong, changes every few minutes and has hidden flows underwater that can sweep you away. There are also many sharp rocks under water, hitting these with force will cause great injury!
