Pretty much a complete washout today. I drove down south of Portland in the Cape Elizabeth area and stopped out at a few lighthouses along the coast. But it was cool, windy, and raining, to such an extent that I wasn't in the mood to do much hiking or the like. Finally got back to Portland to get my run in which was also pretty miserable time in the rain for over an hour.
Well the day was much better, than yesterday, although there was still some drizzle throughout the day. Nothing much planned so I walked from the hotel out to the Old Port area of Portland, signed up for an evening sail out on Casco Bay. Grabbed lunch at Gilbert's Chowder House (it's not Maine without exploring the seafood).
Headed back to the port for my 2 hour sailing trip that was departing at 6 PM. The cloudy skies were beginning to break up (not completely though as evidenced in the pictures) and the wind was picking as well. Actually as we boarded the schooner, a light rain started to fall briefly, and with the sun breaking out from the clouds to the west we saw bits and pieces of several rainbows over the ocean. The winds did indeed pick up and we were able to really zip through the bay for a while. The sunset over the city of Portland was magnificent and the moon even broke out from behind the clouds before we headed back to the bay. All in all a simple and relaxing, but magnificent short trip.
After the sail I walked the two miles back to my hotel, stopping for a quick bite to eat to finish the day.
