Met up with an old schoolpal whom i found thru friendsreunited and we went thru the mersey tunnel to west kirkby and thurstason to some old haunts. There are two mersey tunnels for cars , the old one was opened by the king in about 1933.
The most pleasant way of crossing the mersey is by the ferry from pier head , i'm not sure what is to be seen on the other side but there is a decent walk along the promenade and this offers an excellent view of liverpools' landmarks ie : liver buildings , cathedrals ,sea front .
The Liver buildings are government buildings so named after the birds that are perched on top of them .The liver bird , it seems , does not exactly correspond or resemble , any known species of bird , but it is likley they are young cormorants , a sea bird .
By devious and exhausting methods i managed to get hold of 3 tickets for the Liverpool v Middlesborough football match , anyone wanting details pls message me , i dont want to go thru it all again in this blog.I took my bro in law and nephew and we saw 5 goals , 4 disallowed goals , a hatrick and a sending-off.The mentality of football supporters (and i am one myself) however , sometimes depresses me about the state of human beings ;-) .I am not particularly clever but find i have to close my intellect off at times , possibly i am just getting cynical , if so i am lucky that my team won (or else i would have been more cynical about things ). It was a 3-2 scoreline to Liverpool .
That evening my other team was playing in France and England rugby team managed a victory , it was on tv , i love my sport (when we win)
I also love the Beatles music but know little about the Beatles experience tour , i would imagine there are loads of other blogs in TB that cover that subject .
sunday , i visit the cathedrals , anfield(again) and goodison park .
