Day 73: Santa Elena - San José

Before going back to San José it was time for some fun. Near Santa Elena is the Sky Walk. This is a walk along several suspension bridges which have been built high up in the trees. From the bridges you have a great view of the tree tops and the creatures living in them. We saw a couple of monkeys and a toucan.
The same company also operates the Sky Trek, which is the more exhilarating alternative of the Sky Walk. Once again you start on a platform high up in the trees, but rather than a gentle walk on a suspension bridge, you are attached to a zip line and whiz through the canopy to the next platform, a few hundred metres away.
The Sky Trek was fantastic! I always liked zip lines as a kid, and flying along these huge zip lines, high up in the jungle (the highest one being 70 metres above ground) is just the überest of übercool!
In the afternoon we took a bus back to San José, which was a very slow and uncomfortable 5-hour bus ride.
After the relatively poor experience with our previous hostel in San José, we now opted for the independently owned Costa Rica Backpackers hostel, which was approximately a million times better. Nice friendly staff, clean rooms and even a swimming pool.
