Day 10: Guadalajara

Guadalajara Travel Blog › entry 9 of 120 › view trip summary

90-day trip around all countries of the Central American mainland: Mexico-Belize-Guatemala-El Salvador-Honduras-Nicaragua-Costa Rica-Panama. I started off this trip by staying with a friend in Guadalajara, then travelled with my sister through Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Then on my own to cityhopping Salvador, diving Honduras and climbing volcanoes in Nicaragua. And for the final stretch a mate joined me for Costa Rica and Panama.

Day 10: Guadalajara

The new Lord Of The Rings film premiered today, so it's not hard to guess where I spent the day. An air-conditioned cinema turned out to be a good remedy for a sunburnt face, neck and head, and I must say I felt a lot better when I walked out of the cinema.

In the evening I treated David and Miryam to dinner in a restaurant where I had also eaten twice during my previous trip to Mexico three and a half years ago: Copenhagen 77.
This is a great place with nightly live music by a resident jazz band with a terrific blind pianist. In the afternoon I had walked past the restaurant to make a reservation. I actually wanted to make a reservation for Sunday, but the owner told me they are closed Sundays, but that they would have a good live band tonight.

“the one with the blind pianist?” I asked

“No, he is dead...”

Ow... uhm... ok.

Besides the blind pianist there was another thing I remembered of this restaurant: the great Paella! Not very Mexican, but utterly delicious.
We had a great time eating and drinking too much wine, while the band played great music.
