We arrived about 11 pm to Cuetzalan, streets had very few people around and we asked directions to get get to our hotel. People who helped were friendly and it was funny becuase from all the explanations the only coclusion we had was that taking any street would get us there, so we strarted to following randomly one of those slopping streets.
The next morning we discover fantastic views, a very traditional athmosphere and delicious food. I was very happy because my grandmother was born in little town also close to Cuetzalan (Teziultlán) and she was always very proud of all the amazing things this places have to offer. We went to the center of the town, and found children willing to show us the sorroundings: a waterfall and the ruins for a tip.
We spend the entire day with him, and we got to see the tropical rain forest, giant ferns, the Otomí Ruins: Yohualichan and a big cave... and ofcouse, great food. When you walk troguh the little town, the markets, the people, you get a to sense a very special, people seems very calm and lieving life in different timing... you can feel how they keep and defend many of their ancient traditions.
Most of the people sell the vegetables and fruits grown in their own yards, coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, macadamia nuts and a big variety of tropical fruits and their handcrafts. I'm looking forward to go back and relax in the foggy nights and sunny days!
