Jaffa St Market
February 13, 2008
I would love to live in a city where I could spend my Saturday afternoons walking the local market for fresh veggies and fruits. The atmosphere was intoxicating! Venders with operatic voices calling out to the public the specials of the hour, little old men and women slowly wandering the aisle in search of the freshest bread, tourists standing in everyone's way lost in the sights and sounds of the moment, birds flying just above out heads, the colors of candied fruits and toasted nuts, dodging the smell and visuals of dead fish, and the song of peoples voices discussing their family achievements and the weather with one another. I loved the whole experience.. Eating a warm pita smothered in Zhataar seasoning, drinking a vegan friendly chocolate almond drink, talking with a vendor about the various tea leaves he had for sell, sampling Halva and candied orange peels, and keeping up with the fast pace of my friend..
