Our new Linkau office, under construction
Flew from Shanghai to Hong Kong and Hong Kong to Taichung, Taiwan on Dragonair. Had a tight connection in Hong Kong, but there was a representative from the airline waiting for those of us making the connection who escorted us through special secutiry lines and special elevators so we made it to the flight with time to spare.
Got to Taichung and needed to Taiwan Dollars. Went to the ATM…denied! WTF? I thought this was fixed. The driver who my company uses to pick people up from the airport had never been to Taichung airport before (apparently I am the first person with my company to ever fly to Taiwan via Taichung vs.
Area around Linkau office...we're currently located in this building until construction is completed
Taipei!) so we had to wander around looking for a foreign exchange desk…there isn’t one! Yes, an international airport with no currency exchange! Ugh. Well, here’s another ATM, let’s try again…Success! Even though the first ATM had the Plus logo on it, I guess it wasn’t on the network.
Nothing much new or exciting during the visit to Taiwan. Dinner on Wednesday with Gang Won, my colleague and travel partner for the 2006 Asia travels who was now living in Taiwan. Thursday night with Gang Won and Sally, my 2007/8 counterpart at the Shrimp House restaurant. Friday we again finished early so I accompanied Gang Won to Linkau to our office there where I know some people and may eventually wind up working in 2010. Nice industrial park area. Back down to Hsinchu for a group dinner at a Japanese style BBQ and a few drinks at the Pig and Whistle with Gang Won and some other people from the office.
