Had to beg and plead, but managed to wheedle my way into a trip to Shanghai for a few days. My first ever visit to Asia.
Flew from JFK to Pudong International with Northwest by way of Tokyo Narita. Not in Tokyo long enough to count it as a visit...never left the airport.
Arrived in Shanghai and met up with the group of colleagues who were also present from the Netherlands. We all stayed at the Renaissance hotel in Pudong, very recently opened...most taxi drivers didn't even know where it was yet!
We did a lot of typical tourist attractions...Jinmao tower (Grand Hyatt Hotel) where you can get views fromthe 55/56th floor and 88th floor, The Bund, Nanjing Road to Renmin Square, Old Town and Yuyuan Gardens.
Three nice group dinners introduced me to some interesting foods and the very potent Chinese drinks.
