2/21/04 - 2/28/04 Eindhoven, Netherlands
Flew from JFK to Amsterday on Saturday evening with some colleagues for the kickoff of the project that had me on the road for the next two years. Happened to be Carnival that weekend...first of five in a row for me. Monday and Tuesday meetings in 's-Hertogenbosch. Wednesday through Friday in Eindhoven. Back to Connecticut on the 28th.
I have to give credit to the Dutch, even though it was Carnival, most of them showed up for the kickoff meeting on Monday, though in one or two cases I couldn't tell if they were quite alive. I was surprised to learn that drinks like the Irish Car Bomb and Jaeger Bomb were not well known in town yet. Thursday night one colleague (Randy) and I decided to try Jaeger Bombs with some friends who had never heard of them, and neither had the bartender. After he dropped his first one through his glass (!), the bartender quickly got the hang of it...especially when the local distributor happened to walk by, see what we were drinking, and proceeded to staple up signs declaring it Vliegend Hert (Flying Deer) night. At least 10 later, I was ready for my 8AM presentation the next morning. Ugh.
Randy made it to work in time for lunch...
