Our journey out of Bangkok ended suddenly a few kilometres out of Ayuthaya, where the driver of our bus declared, "Get off now, we're here!!"  Actually we weren't there and even though in Bangkok you have to shoo the Tuk Tuk drivers away here you have the oposite problem, there isn't a Tuk Tuk driver to be seen!!  Never fear, after about quarter of an hour a tour guide showing a group around the ruins nearby took pity on us and called his friend who had a Tuk Tuk.  After another 15 minutes we were off in what looked like a small pick up truck with three wheels, speeding through the back streets.

We spent our first day in Ayuthaya looking at the ruins in Ayuthaya HIstorical park.  They were amazing, the Burmese really went to town when they sacked this city, even leaving the budha statues headless, which I'm sure is the greatest insult to the Budhist people.  During our second day in Ayuthaya we went and fed and patted elephants, a highlight for us!! We loved them, even though we felt like real tourists, laughing and screaming as the elephants snaked their trunks towards us!!

We have spent the last three days in Kanchanaburi at a guest house called Pong Phen our best find so far!  We have a gorgeous little Thai guest house and the staff and food are great.  We wake every morning to the bird in a cage outside our window saying "Sawadee kha" funny the first time but not so much after that!! Never mind it is natures alarm clock.  Since we have been here we have held baby tigers, ridden elephants through the jungle and rafted down the river (well Mike punted me). We have also visited Hell Fire's pass and the Death Railway where many prisoners of war lost their lives, it was incredibly movng.   It has been a great few days and we are heading south tomorrow.
